“If the night wants to take us, then maybe we should oblige.” My head drifts towards the ground and I think to myself. This is too much. I have to give up. After all, who am I? I’m just a kid who doesn’t know his place.
Looking away from me, he lights a cigarette. He reaches out and brushes my hair. “No, the night can wait”. Looking me over, he smiles.
I lay my bag in the grass; standing there, shaking in front of him. Struggling to find the words. "Is this what you..." I stop, the veins in my neck straining.
The shadow of branches above begin to wash over us; I had never seen this look in his eye. He was worried.
